Steelers vs.Ravens: Ravens regain control of first place in the AFC North
Ravens vs. Steelers score: Baltimore rallies in the fourth quarter, beating Pittsburgh in the extension
The ravens regain control of the first place in the AFC north, while allowing the Steelers to fall to 1-4
The 46-meter kick by Justin Tucker in overtime raised the Baltimore Ravens to a 26-23 win for the Pittsburgh Steelers over Heinz Field. Baltimore (3-2) is now alone in first place in the AFC North division, while Pittsburgh is 1-4 after losing only their second game in the division since the start of the 2017 season.
Baltimore rushed to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter before Pittsburgh reduced the lead to 17-13 during the break. The Steelers comeback was based on the 35-meter touchdown pass from Mason Rudolph to JuJu Smith-Schuster. The Pittsburgh defence took care of the other six points on two interceptions by Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson.
Despite losing Mason Rudolph to a concussion in the third quarter, the Steelers scored 10 extra points in the second half behind backup quarterback Devlin Hodges. Chris Boswell, who made all three of his goal attempts in the field, gave the Steelers a 23-20 lead with 2:41 left.
Jackson, fearless despite throwing three interceptions, drove Baltimore into the field goal range before Tucker made a 48-meter kick to force the game overtime. Over time, the Steelers forced a point on the first possession of the Ravens before Baltimore cornerback Marlon Humphrey forced an awkward or Smith-Schuster to be found on the Pittsburgh territory. The Ravens' offense picked up the necessary yards to set up Tucker's 13th kick for winning a career game.
Jackson, who improved to 9-3 as a starting quarterback, was more dangerous with his legs than he was with his arms on Sunday and led Baltimore with 70 stormy yards while throwing only 161 meters. Rookie receiver Marquise Brown, who missed significant time on Sunday with an ankle injury, caught a second-quarter touchdown (his first score since the Baltimore outbreak in week 1 over the Miami Dolphins) that gave the Ravens a 17-7 lead. Tight ending Mark Andrews also had a solid effort while leading Baltimore with five receptions.
Rudolph excited the game after 13 or 20 for 131 yards. Hodges, who made his NFL season debut on Sunday, went 7 or 9 for 68 yards. Smith-Schuster led the Steelers with 75 yards at seven receptions.
Baltimore's defence closed its own Pittsburgh's Wildcat attack, something that was extremely effective in the Steelers' victory over the Cincinnati Bengals last Monday night. The first Baltimore touchdown was set up by linebacker Josh Bynes, who picked up a pass from Pittsburgh and walked back Jaylen Samuels, who tried to throw a pass to James Conner out of the Wildcat.
The Ravens will now look to see what happens Monday night between the Cleveland Browns and San Francisco 49ers. If Cleveland falls on the road, Baltimore comes first on its own for five weeks in the regular season.
